Today's song
(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right(To Party!)
Beastie Boys
Licensed to Ill · 1986
Why this song, today
My right. To party.
That's what I tell myself whenever I want to have some fun and my inner (and outer) adult says it isn't appropriate. You know: kids, work, and so on. But these three are absolutely right. I've got to fight for my right. To party.
The joke is that the Beastie Boys wrote it as a send-up of party anthems. Mike D later said plenty of the guys singing along never noticed it was "a total goof on them."

About the song
"(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!)" is a song by American hip-hop/rap rock group Beastie Boys, released as the fourth single from their debut album Licensed to Ill (1986). It reached No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 in March 1987, becoming the group's highest-charting single and only top-10 hit. The song was meant as a send-up of "party" and "attitude" songs, but unintentionally became representative of their style.
